Article: West Indies v Sri Lanka 1st Test - WWW
Muttiah Muralidharan has been weaving his own world wide web of intrigue with a cricket ball over the last decade and he is the main reason why Windies will not win.
Murali has taken the art of spin to new levels, whilst Windies have taken the art of how NOT to play spin to new levels.
They done exceptionally well to win a test against South Africa recently, however the pitches in South Africa suited their pace bowlers and it was those bowlers that won that test predominantly. Also their batsmen prefer to face pace bowling rather then spin and the South African's one dimensional pace attack suited them down to the ground.
That win in South Africa is the only test won by Windies in last 23 attempts, in most of the others they have struggled, especially against spin bowlers.
In last 2 years, Danish Kaneira, Monty Panesar, Daniel Vettori, Harbhjan Singh and Anil Kumble have tormented the Windies batsmen, especially in 2nd innings when pitches have broken up.
Murali is a class above the other tormentors and I really cannot see how the Windies are going to be able to survive against him, especially in those 2nd innings.
Sri Lanka has a very strong batting line-up; especially with Dilshan now back in favour. I would expect 450 + to be minimum score for them in first innings. That 450 + score should ensure a decent 1st innings lead and , considering the Windies record of 2nd inning collapses against spin, that will be the beginning of the end for them in this test.
A draw will only come into the equation if there are major weather interruptions, I am not aware of any such weather doubts, so my strong suggestions in the test is:
BACK Sri Lanka for 4 pts @ the very generous 2.76 available on Betfair.
