England v Bangladesh ODI Series

By Big Joe

Commences Thursday 8th July, 13.30 GMT

England will have been boosted by their series win against Australia and are extremely short priced favourites to dominate against the minnows from Bangladesh.

There will be a concerns however that, after dominant wins in the first two games against Australia, England stuttered to a the narrowest of wins by 1 wicket in the series clinching third game and the consequent two losses in the dead rubber games. England’s momentum may have suffered and Bangladesh will take heart from that and will be confident of springing a major surprise in this series.

Bangladesh were soundly beaten by England in the Test series last month, however this format will be much more to their liking. The positives from that Test series loss for Bangladesh were that in most of their innings, their openers Tamim and Kayes got them off to great starts. Tamim particularly had a great series and looked to dominate throughout and scored impressive centuries in each of the two tests.

If Bangladesh can get off to similar fast starts in this format, they are very capable of embarrassing England in this series. Batting has always been Bangladesh’s strength and they bat deep enough to make the most of good starts and they will not shy away from setting or chasing big targets.

England have decided to rest two big guns in Kevin Pietersen and Graham Swann. This complacency could backfire, especially with the pattern in the recent games against Australia saw England pacers struggle to take early wickets. The absence of the reliable Swann to follow the pacers could play into Bangladeshi hands.

Overall, and for small stakes, I believe it is worth opposing England in this series. This format will be a good leveller and I saw enough potential in the Test matches from Bangladesh to encourage me to back them at a very decent price. My suggested bets for this series therefore are:

In the Series Outright Market:

BACK Bangladesh to win for 2 points @ 13.0 at Bet365

In The Series Correct Score Market:

BACK Bangladesh to win 3-0 for 1 point @ 101.0 Sky Bet

BACK Bangladesh to win 2-1 for 1 point @ 21.0 at Sportingbet
