Article: West Indies v Australia 3rd ODI.......... Different Strokes

e-mail to friend  print this article
There was a kid's programme called Different Strokes a few years ago. The Aussies made kids play of defending just 213 in last game, aided by some childish play by the Windies batsmen.

If they had shown maturity instead and played different strokes, that game could, and should have been a lot closer.

The good news for the Windies is that they get a second chance to redeem themselves today.

It's rare for consecutive international games to be played on the same pitch, but that's what we have with St George's Grenada again the venue for this match.

The pitch will play as it did for last game, very difficult for batting and once again it will be a low scoring affair.

Windie's batsman have had a day to reflect on what went wrong in the last game, and uppermost in their reflections will be how the likes of Gayle, Fletcher, Bravo and Pollard threw away their wickets playing shots that suggested they needed twelve an over, rather then the five an over that was the case.

Clarke and Hussey had earlier given a master class on how to play on this pitch, but the Windies, apart from the ever reliable Chanderpaul, did not learn the lesson.

Prices on the exchanges:

Australia 1.34

Windies 3.85

After their last two resounding wins, some may consider this 1.34 on Australia is easy money and a bit like taking candy from kids!

I strongly disagree. In their last nine games in all formats of the game, the Aussies have started at similar long odds on. Yet, in a staggering eight out of those nine games, they have gone onto trade odds against, winning just four times.

I have suggested laying them in all those games and those doing so would have been able to lock in a decent profit in eight of those nine games.

My advice remains the same today, again I say this 1.34 is way too short and they will trade nearer to odds against at some time at least and so I expect yet another opportunity to lock in a profit.

This will be a low scoring game, and that by nature should see a closing of the gap in prices.

West Indies were 3.6 for last game and for long periods of the game they traded as low as 1.8.

This 3.85 today again represents value and I strongly suggest sticking with them.

There is a possibility that Sarwan could return after injury, if he does then this strengthens the Windies batting significantly and if Ramdin also returns in place of Pollard, its strengthened further.

Key today will be the approach of the Windies batsman. I believe they will have learnt from the last game, they will show maturity today.

It won't be easy against this formidable Aussie side, but I am very happy to give them another chance, especially at this massive price of 3.85, to show that they are capable of using their heads as well as their bats and this time, pull some different strokes.

My bet for today's game:

BACK West Indies for 2 points @ 3.85 on Betfair

Bigjoe.
