Rugby League World Cup
Scotland v France

Scotland seem to be priced as whipping boys of this group but they have a fair sprinkling of quality in their ranks with plenty of Super League or NRL experience. I think they could surprise a few people and in this encounter I think a win outright is not totally out of the question. Danny Brough and Ian Henderson, formerly a Grand final winner with Bradford and now with the NZ Warriors, will lead their troops around the field and in full-back Robertson you have a strike player fresh from a hat-trick in the NRL Grand Final with Manly. The rest of the line-up doesn't feature any real stand out performers but there aren't many weak links either.
As for France we see a side predominantly made up of Catalan players but as I said when previewing the mid-summer Test their best players boast an Australian accent. They have a strong looking pack with the likes of Guisset, Elima, Mounis and Fakir and the Scotland side will have to stand tough to hold them but if they do then this game is by no means a forgone conclusion.
For me, all things considered, the handicap is on the high side and I was thinking 10-12pts in favour of the French.
Pick: Scotland +16 3pts @1.91 with Stan James, Boylesports
