Catalan v Wakefield

Not my most confident suggestion ever if only because what is at stake for the two sides. On current form and overall ability I would have Wakefield as superior to Catalan but it worries me slightly that they have already secured their play-off berth whilst this is a must win game for Catalan as a trip to St.Helens looms on the final day of the regular season.

For me, Catalan have been a massive disappointment this season and I'm not sure their form warrants an extension to the season. I thought they could have built on their impressive campaign last season but they didn't prepare as well as they should for the season and have most certainly gone backwards.

By contrast, Wakefield have exceeded expectations. They continue to defy their critics who have them nailed on for a wooden spoon fight and they have already clinched that coveted play-off slot. Their recent form has been impressive with four wins in their last five including a tremendous victory at St.Helens.

Obviously a trip to France is no gimme and the French tend to be a different proposition on home soil but I have this as a game that Wakefield are capable of winning. There will be desire from the French and they have ran up some big scores in the past and I'm not saying they aren't capable here but as ever with my selections I disagree with the handicap.

I always produce my own tissue and produce my wagers when there is a difference of opinion between them and the bookies. Even then a wager isn't guaranteed as a question whether it is I that has misjudged. For this one, despite the fact I feel there is a fair chance of losing, on current form and squad ability I reckon I'll win more times than not if I could repeatedly get 10 start for Wakefield at Catalan. I had the French by 4pts.
