This Week's Rugby League

By The Man

Last Friday I was sat pretty at half time with my wagers and thinking how clever I was. Wigan were leading twenty points to nil and there were only eighteen points in the Leeds versus Harlequins fixture. How forty minutes can change the picture! By full-time I was in shock and the lesson to be learnt is there are no easy pickings in this game. It is more of a grind although it can be a successful grind. The beginning of the season had gone so well perhaps the gambling gods wanted to put me in my place and bring me back to earth. I'm sure in the long run I can make amends and hopefully that will start this weekend. I have a wager from Super League and possibly another as I wait for team news and I'll be back with an article for the Championship leagues. I already have my eye on a couple there but I'm hoping for better handicaps when a few more bookmakers reveal their hand.

Warrington v Bradford

13th March 17:30 GMT

Yes, I'm opposing Bradford again. I know they caused me pain last weekend but I think they have a tough task ahead of them here. Matt Orford was probably the main reason Bradford got over the line last week, he is an undoubted talent and can win Bradford many games this season. Add the fact that their pack can compete and I concede there is play-off aspirations. However, I may be repeating myself but I simply don't rate their outside backs and I feel Warrington can take advantage.

The Warrington pack with Morley, Harrison and Westwood outstanding in recent weeks will more than match their opposites. Myler returns at half-back and we have Matt King causing problems out wide. The big Australian international finally seems to have settled in Super League. Warrington were beaten last time they were on TV in a classic by Wigan but what I like most is the way they responded by going to Huddersfield and grinding out a win. It would have been so easy to play the fatigue card and lie down to a very physical and talented Giants side but they dug in showing star quality.

Bradford should be concerned the way they leaked points in that first half to Wigan and I don't see a way back if they concede points so softly. Playing at home and travelling to the Halliwell Jones stadium are two different prospects.

So to the betting. To be honest I see a fairly routine Warrington victory, it would surprise me greatly if Bradford could conjure up a win yet it wouldn't shock me if the margin was in the 20s. I had Warrington by 12pts on my tissue making the 8pts on offer worth a play.
