The Overrule: Wimbledon Second Round

Denis Istomin pushed Rafael Nadal at Queen’s but certainly doesn't deserve to be as favoured as he is against German veteran Rainer Schuettler. In fact, this contest is very much 50/50 and we’ll be happy to take odds against on Schuettler. Don’t expect this one to be over quickly, it has four, and even five sets written all over it. Maria Kirilenko, Yanina Wickmayer and Yaroslava Shvedova have wonderful opportunities to reach the third round against lightweight opponents. Kirilenko, who was taken to three sets in round one, faces American Shenay Perry. Wickmayer faces compatriot Kirsten Flipkens, the difference in mental attitude and strength between the two couldn’t be more contrasting. Wickmayer is a very defiant character, while Flipkens rolls over easily and doesn’t have much armoury to hurt Yanina. The Overrule backed Shvedova in the opening round and we will do so against as she faces Regina Kulikova. Many players are having trouble dealing with the Shvedova serve, and Kulikova doesn’t have the return game to consistently hurt her opponent.
