The Overrule: Wimbledon Men's Quarter Finals
By Sports MagicianAfter a dismal World Cup for England, attention is now squarely on the Scot/Brit Andy Murray in the UK. I say Scot/Brit since when Murray wins the English media claim him as British, and when he loses, he suddenly becomes purely Scottish. Murray must have enjoyed the slightly more relaxing build-up to Wimbledon this year, with the eyes of many focused solely on the World Cup. That all changes now, and the Pimms drinking-strawberry eating-watch tennis once a year-completely ignorant of what goes on in the tennis world year round brigade, begin to bang the drum for Murray success.
At the beginning of the tournament the Overrule couldn't pick out a winner for the men's event, but the stars seem to be aligning for Murray. Roger Federer has looked decidedly shaky, despite an improved performance against Jurgen Melzer. Novak Djokovic remains unconvincing and once again had health issues in his match with Lleyton Hewitt. Rafael Nadal's knee and now arm are giving him trouble, to the extent that he has already decided to pull out of Spain's Davis Cup quarter-final with France, which follows the weekend after Wimbledon ends.
Murray is healthy, playing well and hasn't lost a set. This could finally be his moment.
In quarter-final action Tomas Berdych takes on Federer and some big serving will be on show. The Czech has had a very solid year and will be heading out to Chile after Wimbledon is over to lead his nation in Davis Cup action against the South Americans on clay. I expect strong serving from both men to begin this match, with few early opportunities to break. And that is why we shall be backing a first set tie-break at appealing odds, as well as there being no first set breaks of serve.
