The Overrule: Wimbledon Women's Semi-Finals
By Sports Magician
If you had asked Serena Williams at the start of the tournament which three players would be joining her in the last four of the competition, I very much doubt she would have chosen any of Petra Kvitova, Vera Zvonareva and Tsvetana Pironkova. Another Wimbledon title looks a virtual formality for Serena after her sister, Venus, and Kim Clijsters were ousted in the last eight. Williams destroyed Kvitova at the Australian Open this year, and the Czech will undoubtedly be nervous going into her first Grand Slam semi-final facing the world number one.The Overrule backed Zvonareva to take out Clijsters and she deservedly did just that in three sets against the Belgian. Vera should have won in straight sets, after dominating the first set, but allowed it to slip away from her. Her only meeting with Pironkova came last year in Moscow where the Bulgarian won for the loss of just two games. An alarming result when looked at on paper, but the reality is that Zvonareva was struggling with an ankle injury, and a similar scoreline will not be reflected at Wimbledon.
