The Overrule: US Open Women 2010 "There is only one Kim Clijsters"

The Overrule has already made selections on Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova in the each-way market for this year's US Open, which begins at the end of August. With Justine Henin ruled out of the event through injury and the news that Serena Williams won’t play again until the US Open, an opportunity arises for us to back last year’s US Open winner - Kim Clijsters - at a very appealing price.

Before 2005, Clijsters, who had always been there or thereabouts in Grand Slams, was in danger of seeing her career be defined as a very good player, who everyone liked, who had a great ass, who couldn’t win the big ones. She is still a very good player, who everyone likes, who has a great ass, but now she has two Grand Slams to her name - both won at the US Open (2005 & 2009). In fact her last three appearances at the US Open read; 2009 - winner, 2005 - winner, 2003 - runner-up.

When Kim returned to the tour this time last year, the Overrule doubted her chances of success at the 2009 US Open, and she proved us remarkably wrong with a series of great hitting displays that blew away most of her opposition. Clijsters has managed her on and off court life very well since returning to the tour, maintaining a healthy balance between being a mother and being a professional tennis player with a hunger for success. There is no reason why Clijsters can’t taste success again at the US Open, particularly with Henin out, and Serena a fitness doubt.
