The Overrule: Davis Cup 2010
By Sports MagicianThe Davis Cup semi-finals will take place in the middle of September, hot off the heels of the US Open. As it presently stands, here are our positions in the outright market for the competition.
(+14.50) France v Argentina (+12.50)
(-10.00) Serbia v Czech Republic (-10.00)
(-10.00) Serbia v Czech Republic (-10.00)
We are already guaranteed a finalist from the France/Argentina tie, but now we can extend our positions due to the fact that Serbia have been priced up unjustifiably short to win the competition. The Czech Republic lost out to Spain in last year’s final, and with Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek set to return for the Serbia clash - having missed the quarter-final in Chile due to injuries - there is no reason for them to be priced as such outsiders.
Serbia will host the tie, but this is the first time in a long time that the last four nations remaining in Davis Cup action have squads that are adept on all surfaces. In prospective finals, Argentina would host either Serbia or the Czech Republic, and if Juan Martin del Potro returns for the semi-final with France (which is being speculated), Argentina might finally end their Davis Cup drought. France would entertain the Czech Republic in a potential final and Serbia would host France.
The Overrule will now back the Czech Republic for Davis Cup glory, ensuring a healthy profit on three of the four remaining teams, in which we will be opposing Serbia.
