The Overrule: ATP Cincinnati & WTA Montreal
By Sports MagicianATP CINCINNATI
The ATP Tour moves on to Cincinnati as the last Masters Series event before the US Open gives the top players a final chance to find or maintain their form. Andy Murray has been installed as tournament favourite after an impressive week in Toronto where he claimed his first title of 2010. Last week the Overrule tipped Novak Djokovic and we will do so again at a similar price. The Serbian lost out to Roger Federer in the last four and may meet Murray at the same stage this week.
In the top half of the draw Tomas Berdych - who also lost out to Federer last week - appeals at juicy each-way odds. Berdych has Rafael Nadal in his quarter but the match-up suits Berdych on these courts and if he continues to show the consistency of recent months then he can give us a run for our money.
PICK: 2*NOVAK DJOKOVIC WIN CINCINNATI @ 9.00 (TOTESPORT)
PICK: 1*(EACH-WAY) TOMAS BERDYCH WIN CINCINNATI (1/2 ODDS 1-2 PLACES) @ 17.00 (BET365 / BETFRED)
WTA MONTREAL
Maria Sharapova has been forced to withdraw from Montreal after blowing three match points against Kim Clijsters in Cincinnati. Sharapova served well for most of the match but was let down by double faults at crucial stages and a rain delay allowed Clijsters to regroup. The Overrule successfully tipped Clijsters last week and we see no reason not to reinvest in the Belgian this week. Clijsters is a very worthy tournament favourite with the Williams sisters and Justine Henin once again absent due to injury. The Belgian has much the same draw as she did last week. Despite not playing well for the majority of the week, Clijsters was still able to come through and claim the title. Even a slight increase in her performance levels will mean she is once again too strong for the remainder of the draw.
In the bottom half of the draw Caroline Wozniacki can recover from an early exit in Cincinnati. Wozniacki is leaving herself more and more susceptible to defeat against the many WTA players who are willing to take risks early and often. Her great defence has won her plenty of matches but the young Dane has to realise she cannot maintain her ranking and ambitions of winning a Grand Slam by continually being passive. She may experience some relative success this week playing as she is, but the longer her career goes, the more she will surely come to the realisation that she has to be more aggressive in her game plan than she is at present.
PICK: 3*KIM CLIJSTERS WIN MONTREAL @ 4.50 (BETFRED / STAN JAMES)
PICK: 1*(EACH-WAY) CAROLINE WOZNIACKI WIN MONTREAL (1/2 ODDS 1-2 PLACES) @ 11.00 (BETFRED)
