Monday Night MLB


Tonight we have a full card and I'm pretty excited because there are loads of betting opportunities. The games I will focus on are Boston @ Cleveland and the Yankees @ Detroit.
 
Boston Red Sox (Wakefield 2-1, 2.45) @ Cleveland Indians (Lee 1-3, 5.25)

Cy Young winner Cliff Lee takes on knuckleballer Tim Wakefield in what could be a cracking contest given the offensive ability of the two sides. The Red Sox are coming into this in red hot form having won ten on the spin and I think they are good value to make it eleven with a win here. Cleveland have not made a great start to the 2009 season and they will get no favours from this Boston ball club who are gunning for glory.

Lee is 2-4 lifetime against the Sox with a very high E.R.A of 5.13 so this does not bode well for Indians backers but there is small crumb for comfort in that although Wakefield is 10-8 v Cleveland, his E.R.A is also high at 4.80.
To make Red Sox underdogs here is crazy in my opinion so I say stick with the Red Sox and take the 2.11 on offer.
Jacob Ellsbury stole home last night versus the Yankees so watch him run like a hare between bases if he gets any hits.

New York Yankees (Sabathia 1-1, 4.81) @ Detroit Tigers (Verlander 0-2, 9.00)

It has been a poor start this season for both of the starting pitchers. CC Sabathia has slipped below his usual top notch standards whilst his opponent Justin Verlander has been pounded in the early part of this season. Anyone looking to buy the runs should be aware though that these are quality pitchers, particularly in Sabathias case and realise that the form will come eventually.

The Yankees need a win to boost their morale after a mentally draining series against the Red Sox and I think they have a great chance here. Detroit have made a good start to this season but if their bullpen is exposed early by the Yankees bats then we could see a bit of a fold.

I priced this one up as 1.72 on the Yankees and 2.38 on Detroit working to 100% book and therefore given my own pricing, I have to consider the 1.86 available on the New Yorkers great value. Hopefully it'll be another shaky night for Verlander and a good night for the wallet!
