Article: MLB SUNDAY

e-mail to friend  print this article
Good day to you all, and I hope you are having a mighty profitable weekend so far!
The two matches I want to draw your attention to on this mighty fine Inter-league Sunday are the Angels travelling to the Phillies, and the Tigers travelling to the Padres.

LA ANGELS (Weaver 6-7, 4.73) @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (Hamels 7-4, 3.23)
Neither pitcher will say that they are truly satisfied with their seasons work so far I would imagine but when it comes to big Inter league encounters, I expect them both to be on their mettle.
Two league leaders here that have got their stature by very differing means; The Phillies have simply out hit their opponents with the likes of Burrell, Howard and Utley all going deep on several occasions, whereas their opponents, the Angels are a percentage team that try to squeeze as much out of their talents as possible. Expect a very intense encounter.
My inclination is that the American League is a marginally stronger league and I would imagine that the extra discipline applied by the Angels, if matched by the talented Jered Weaver taking to the mound tonight, will offer a slight edge to the Angels in what should be a closely fought affair.
There is some big value available here if you go with the Angels, who are 2-0 up and looking to sweep this series that they have dominated thus far.
MEN TO WATCH
Torii Hunter (.273, 9HR, 37RBI, 9SB) LA Angels
Ryan Howard (.216, 19HR, 63RBI, 1SB) Philadelphia Phillies
LA Angels 45-30 (23-12 Road)
Philadelphia Phillies 42-34 (22-17 Home)
RECOMMENDATION - 4 Points Stake - LA Angels @ 2.56 Bet365

DETROIT TIGERS (Verlander 3-9, 4.55) @ SAN DIEGO (Wolf 5-5, 4.16)
Two teams that would be extremely disappointed with the way they started the season. Difference is, Detroit are kicking that bad habit in a big way now and have a record of 8-2 out of the last ten matches they have played in.
Two highly competent pitchers tonight and I am an admirer of both. Justin Verlander being marginally more talented and has age on his side but this is another match up that on paper doesn't look great but will be fascinating to see how they duel.
Wolf has been one of the few Padres pitchers to get a little runs support this season but he looks to have his work cut out against this streaking Tigers unit who have the majestic slugging outfielder Magglio Ordonez in their ranks and a man hitting red hot form in Marcus Thames.
Despite them being jollies for this encounter, expect Verlander to get the support he requires to show Detroit as rightful favourites.
MEN TO WATCH
Marcus Thames (.254, 14HR, 31RBI) Detroit Tigers
Adrian Gonzalez (..290, 20 HR, 64RBI) San Diego Padres
Detroit Tigers 35-39 (15-23 Road)
San Diego Padres 32-44 (21-19 Home)
RECOMMENDATION - 5 Points Stake - Detroit Tigers @1.83 Canbet
Pile in and good luck!
