Article: MLB SUPER SUNDAY
From a viewing point of view there will be very little interest in tonight's card because there is a pretty low standard of starting pitchers lining up.. There is one match that sticks in my mind and that is the red hot Colorado Rockies playing at Cincinnati Reds.
COLORADO ROCKIES (Jiminez 6-9, 3.98) @ CINCINNATI REDS (Fogg 2-2, 7.09)
6:15pm UK Time Sunday 27th July 2008
Get your brushes at the ready! The Rockies are looking to gain a clean sweep over the Reds and prove their superiority over their opponents again. Having won eight out of their last ten matches, the Rockies are in imperious form both from a pitching and hitting perspective, scoring a 5-1 victory over the Reds last night to guarantee a series win and go 2-0 up.
Ubaldo Jiminez had his struggles early on in the season but seems to be pitching terrifically now and tonight is a great opportunity to showcase his skills yet again. The demon arm of Jiminez has won four of his last five outings, striking out an impressive twenty seven batters and only giving up eight earned runs. This young Dominican has the ability to be a high quality number two pitcher in years to come.
Josh Fogg is a pitcher that has always had a mediocre set of statistics that have been boosted because he has usually got good runs support from the batsmen. A career earned run average of just under five is poor for major league standards and it is particularly telling by the fact that despite having seven years of pitching in the majors behind him, he has learned very little and barely improved. Lucky to get a place in anybody's rotation.
Despite having a poor record away from home generally the Rockies are really hitting well, have a pretty settled line up now and the once dreadful backup pitchers to ace Cook are starting to shine. They are a team to follow between now and the end of the season and could still make the play offs. The 1.81 available on them winning tonight is extremely generous and should be gratefully accepted. With shaky Fogg taking to the mound, a less than reliable bullpen and players on both teams capable of hitting deep, then there is a good chance of plenty of runs being scored tonight.
Expect the Rockies to heap more pain on their former pitcher and continue their climb towards the top of the NL West division.
