Article: Super league Weekend

e-mail to friend  print this article

On a very important super league weekend, I have two selections for you. Things are starting to heat up and with just five regular season games to go every game counts for the teams jostling for position in the play off mix.

WIGAN WARRIORS V HULL FC, Friday 1st August 2008, 8pm

This is a huge game for Wigan tonight make no mistake about that. A win here would make a play off spot pretty safe if Saints are to dispatch Wakefield on Sunday which would be heavily expected. So it should be viewed as a great chance against a Hull side that has just secured a place in the Challenge Cup Final.

Wigan should win but to be honest at 1.5 I think there is little value in that and you should search for alternative markets for value, particularly when you consider that Gareth Hock is suspended, Sean O'Loughlin is still injured and Iafeta Paleaaesina may miss this game as he faces a late fitness test.

I would advise that you look to the market of total points and go for an unders shot because it could be a tense, tight encounter and Wigan are a bit of a risk on both the outright and handicap.

Despite Hull potentially having their mind elsewhere, it should be realised that they will not want to lose the momentum that they have gathered and should look to play with plenty of pride and keep their form going into the big Wembley final.

RECOMMENDATION - 3 points stake on Under 48 Points @ 1.91 (Bet365)

WARRINGTON WOLVES V LEEDS RHINOS, Saturday 2nd August 2008, 7:30pm

Broadcast live on Sky Sports 1

What a difference a few weeks makes in sport. The previously inconsistent 'Wire' have found their form a little, ground out some results and all of a sudden are considered a coin-toss shot against a Rhinos unit that is joint-top in the Engage Super League.

Warrington have cemented their play off place having found a modicum of consistency but just take a look at their last outing where a pretty ragged Huddersfield unit fought them tooth and nail and it took a late drop goal to win the game.

The Rhinos have had a few problems in recent times but we should not read too much into their challenge cup defeat to the mighty Saints. Before the cup encounter they got a battling victory in the south of France over Catalans and the previous week they pulverised the very same Huddersfield unit that Warrington struggled against.

The loss of Ryan Hall and Clinton Toopi will be a bit of a blow for the Rhinos, however they still have skill and experience by the bucket load and should have more than enough to brush aside a resurgent but still somewhat jittery Warrington Wolves unit.

Even money is a gift from the gods.

RECOMMENDATION - 3.5 Points stake on Leeds Rhinos @ 2 (Bet365)

Good luck, happy punting.
