Article: MLB MIDWEEK MAJORS
DETROIT TIGERS (Verlander 8-11, 4.49) @ CHICAGO WHITE SOX (Danks 8-4, 3.31)
Thursday 7th August 2008, 1:11am UK Time
You may be surprised when you look at the odds for this one. In the majority of the markets this match is priced up as a virtual coin-toss despite home advantage for the White Sox, better win-loss record and earned run average of the starting pitcher Danks. There is very good reasoning behind this as John Danks has really excelled himself this year and has nearly always got good runs support, whereas Justin Verlander is a brilliant pitcher that had a woefully abysmal start to the season for a team in the Tigers that is looking to have an all out assault to try and catch up in the division.
Having stalled in recent matches (they have lost five in a row), they turn to their ace pitcher to try and stop the rot, and I think he will. Both teams have very comparable offensive statistic for the season but it is the more disciplined fielding and better pitching which has saw the White Sox take a division lead. If Verlander pitches as he can do (he is 6-2 from his last ten matches with a 3.78 era) then he should be able to rely on the likes of Magglio Ordonez and Miguel Cabrera to give him the runs support that he requires.
This bet is very comparable to my recommendation of Cincinnati last week.
MEN TO WATCH
Miguel Cabrera (.293, 20 HR, 82 RBI, 1 SB) Detroit Tigers
Carlos Quentin (.285, 29 HR, 86 RBI, 5 SB) Chicago White Sox
RECOMMENDATION - 2.5 Points stake on Detroit Tigers @ 2.02 (Bet365)
1.5 Points stake Detroit Tigers -1.5 Handicap @ 2.55 (Bet365)
Good luck all
