Article: MLB SUPER SUNDAY
MILWAUKEE BREWERS (McClung 5-6, 4.22) @ CINCINNATI REDS (Arroyo 15-10, 4.57)
September 21st - 18:15 BST
The Brewers simply must win this to maintain a chance of making post-season through the Wildcard standings. Having endured a pretty rough time of things recently it has now reached the point of no return for the Brewers, they probably need to win six of seven or maybe even all seven remaining games to maintain hope. The Reds is never a bad place to go to try and get it. They are a poor side this year.
Despite the relative inexperience of Seth McClung as a starter, I consider him to be at least the equal of Bronson Arroyo. Either have the potential to pitch shut out innings or go for plenty.
With their superior offense, I go for the Brewers at the frankly monstrous price of 2.25. They simply need it more. When you consider that they are up against a team experimenting with many youngsters in their ranks, it is hard to look elsewhere.
STATS
MEN TO WATCH
Corey Hart (.274, 20 HR, 87 RBI, 23 SB) Milwaukee Brewers
Chris Dickerson (.304, 6 HR, 15 RBI, 5 SB) Cincinnati Reds
RECOMMENDATION - 3 Points on Milwaukee Brewers @ 2.25 (Bet365)
NEW YORK METS (Pelfrey 13-10, 3.67) @ ATLANTA BRAVES (Parr 1-0, 2.20)
21st September - 18:35 BST
This match is pretty crucial. The Mets are 0.5 games back in the NL East race and 2.5 games ahead in the Wildcard race so they will definitely want to keep winning, especially after unexpectedly losing last night.
The Braves are just drifting along now. They are playing pretty attacking baseball right now and sometimes it is coming off; This is just the nature of playing for pride, sometimes you can cause a surprise.
With the likes of Delgado, Wright, Beltran and Reyes amongst their ranks, the Mets have a strong offensive line up. If you consider also the form of catcher Brian Schneider, it could be a tough time for rookie James Parr who is starting his fourth match for the Braves.
The danger man for the Braves is Chipper Jones - he is Mr Atlanta, but the first baseman really deserves to be plying his trade at a better club.
At 1.81, the Mets are a steal.
STATS
MEN TO WATCH
Carlos Beltran (.281, 26 HR, 108 RBI, 21 SB) NY Mets
Chipper Jones (.361, 21 HR, 72 RBI, 4 SB) Atlanta Braves
RECOMMENDATION - 3.5 Points Stake on New York Mets @ 1.81 (Bet365)
ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (Haren 15-8, 3.24) @ COLORADO ROCKIES (Reynolds 2-7, 7.42)
September 21st - 20:05 BST
Yet another game with one team that needs a win and the other playing for pride. D-backs need this bad.
This one is the most blatantly obvious bet of the lot in that we have one of the best pitchers in the majors, pitching for a team that desperately needs a win to keep their post-season hopes alive against one of the worst pitchers in the majors (no disrespect intended to Greg Reynolds, but he has proved to be well below the required standard of MLB) for a team that is out of contention.
Real short price backs are very rarely a thing I like, but in this case 1.67 looks about twenty ticks above what it should be and so this is the banker bet of the card.
Either side can click their offense into gear on occasion because they have the personnel, but lack the consistency. In this case, it is just too difficult to ignore the massive difference in standard of starting pitchers. A Rockies bullpen exposed early is a recipe for carnage.
STATS
MEN TO WATCH
Adam Dunn (.236, 38 HR, 95 RBI, 2 SB) Arizona D-Backs
Garrett Atkins (.289, 19 HR, 92 RBI, 1 SB) Colorado Rockies
RECOMMENDATION - 4.5 Points Stake on Arizona Diamondbacks @ 1.67 (Boylesports
BALTIMORE ORIOLES (Waters 3-3, 4.75) @ NEW YORK YANKEES (Pettite 13-14, 4.57)
September 22nd - 01:05 BST, Live on Channel 5
This match will be quite special for many people. Yankee Stadium has been a bit of an institute of the game and is going to host its final major league match tonight. A packed out house will be watching and hoping for a nice send off.
The Yankees are moving just a stones throw away to the new Yankee Stadium but for quite some time I imagine, it will just not be the same. So many historic triumphs have occurred at 'The House that Ruth built' which is the nickname often coined, after the legend Babe Ruth who played a part of many special nights for the Yankee faithful.
Anyhow, sentimentality needs to be cast to one side. This match has two teams with nothing to play for whatsoever in terms of the league.
All of the motivation should rest with the Yankees who will want to make the night a special one. And, in truth they are a better team than the Orioles too which will make a difference.
I think that we could have plenty of runs too tonight but the mark of ten runs is a little off putting given that Andy Pettite is due a big pitching performance. I think I will leave that market alone. It is best to leave the outright market alone too because 1.43 on Yankees is not worth a bet.
There are two markets that offer much more backable prices; The Yankees -1.5 @ 1.83 and Yankees to have the highest scoring innings @ 1.72
STATS
MEN TO WATCH
Nick Markakis (.300, 20 HR, 86 RBI, 10 SB) Baltimore Orioles
Alex Rodriguez (.304, 35 HR, 101, 18 SB) NY Yankees
RECOMMENDATIONS - 3 Points Stake on Yankees -1.5 @ 1.83 (Bet365, Ladbrokes)
3.5 Points Stake on Yankees Highest Scoring Innings @ 1.72 (Bet365)
