Article: MLB SUPER SUNDAY
There are two matches that do still interest me; Toronto Blue Jays @ Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies @ Arizona Diamondbacks.
TORONTO BLUE JAYS (Litsch 12-9, 3.67) @ BALTIMORE ORIOLES (Guthrie 10-11, 3.57)
28th September - 18:35 BST
This may well be a dead rubber but these are two teams that very much have their eye on the future.
Jesse Litsch is going to have a brilliant career in the majors, of that I am certain. Having now completed two seasons at the show, he has a career record over the .500 mark (19-18, 3.73) and this is pretty remarkable given that he is playing for a team that has hardly set the world alight in the Blue Jays. He is someone everyone should keep an eye on.
Jeremy Guthrie is not a young starlet at all at the age of 29, but he has had a similar start to life in the big's. Guthrie has been effective throughout a pretty mediocre season for the Orioles and has deserved better support.
It is more a case of who is the worst of these two teams and that is an easy question to answer. The Orioles.
Baltimore snapped a ten game losing streak by winning last night but I would be extremely surprised if they made it two on the spin as the Blue Jays have won seventeen more games than their counterparts this evening and that is a massive gap in class.
STATS
RECOMMENDATION - 3 Points on Toronto Blue Jays @ 1.85 (Bet365)
COLORADO ROCKIES (Jiminez 12-12, 4.13) @ ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (Johnson 10-10, 4.11) 28th September - 21:10 BST
The future of MLB meets the past here tonight as Ubaldo Jimenez faces Randy Johnson. Both pitchers have had creditable seasons on the whole and will be keen to end things well.. The problem either of them has really is that it is down to the rest of their team in the main as to whether they will get that all important W next to their name.
Both teams will view their season as a failure on the whole and it is the D-Backs who will be most disappointed because they were looking every bit the best team in baseball after the first month or so play of the season. The Rockies by contrast have had an odd season really because they started badly and on numerous occasions looked like going on a run to threaten the Dodgers and D-Backs but none of them ever materialised.
The Rockies do have some excellent hitters in their line-up and may be prepared to sacrifice a big name in order to try and sort out their main problem, the pitching rotation. The Rockies have had too many fill-ins that have been woeful - the likes of Redman, Hernandez and Reynolds have all tried to fill their final spot without success and even the previous staff ace John Francis has struggled with form and fitness.
If the Rockies can keep Francis, Jimenez and Cook fit and firing whilst acquiring two more consistent starters then they will have a very good rotation. The problem is that they may have to give up a hitter - thankfully though, they have some excellent youngsters that can fill most roles should somebody be traded.
I'm going with the future tonight and the future lies with the Rockies. The D-Backs look like a devastated team and I for one, hope they play like one.
STATS
RECOMMENDATION - 2.5 Points on Colorado @ 2.2 (Coral)
