Article: 20:32 Romford Stadium Maiden Stayers
By Romford Raider
Last week's defeat or Droopys Quinta showed the negatives of posting a selection early. Best priced 1.73 when my tissue showed a 2.25 shot, showed I got it massively wrong, Anything shorter than 2.0 would have been a no bet and together with finding out Mr Cahill himself was not present at Romford showed in how the bitch ran....... terrible!
Tonight I have lined up a real eye catcher from last Friday's meeting which was beaten by 3/4 of a length after missing the lid rise then running in to all sorts of bother.
The greyhound in question is DROOPYS HAD and runs in the 20:32 Maiden Stayers from Trap 2.
The selection trained by Tony Collett has already posted a very smart 29.36 over 480m at Sittingbourne and put in a very game performance in his first try over 6 bends and looks like a star in the making over this trip and possibly further.
He did show some early pace despite the Comments of Slow Away which duly puzzled me and in clocking a good 35.97 in defeat I know this dog has 5 lengths at least in the locker.
The race is full of untried types over the extended distance,
Blakes Bruiser. Has some smart Hove form and doesn't look short of early pace but has taken a big disliking to Trap 1 over the 575m distance as even the best starters don't seem to come away. Let's hope he doesn't tonight.
DROOPYS HAD. Our selection hoping for a clean run race which will see him record his first win.
Rough Jet. Does look a winner waiting to happen but I would like to see him clearly pass when it matters to get involved with this one.
Glenard Bay. Trained by David Mullins, Glenard is the only local runner in the field so will have to make most of home advantage to get involved. A top grade performer at Romford but may need a draw closer to the rails.
London Walter. Is trained by the in form Dean Childs and looks a typical Romford Stayer in the making. Nice early pace, will stay in front and has recently won an open around Coventry. A danger to us tonight, only raced Romford once and may need the look round.
Mountjoy Opal. Runs for the very inconsistent John Mullins kennel. When John's runners are running take note but when knows one knows. A lively danger on his 24.27 run in August ,will stay but can't see him clearing Walter on the run up.There is some pace in the race but I can see the two outside runners doing each other up and that we may see Trap 1 (if coming away) to take them along early before our selection gets in to it between bends 4-5. Saying that, I wouldn't be surprised if he found himself in front by the 2nd. I have put him up at 3pts but not knowing if the going is to be quick or slow or inside or out he could of been a max 5pt bet.
Racing Post tissue is 4.0 can't see it being this big, I had him marked up at 2.75.
