Article: 20:55 Bell Vue
2nd October 2008 - 20:55
Tonight's highlight in the open race calendar is the semi-finals of the £10000 BetFred Laurels from Belle Vue and it's in the 20.55 which interests me the most. I take a short preview into the race.
Semi-Final Odds Ante Post Odds
Star of Twilight (P A Sallis, HallG) 11.0 (Coral) 34.0 (William Hill) Consistent open racer who deserves his place in this semi-final line up, 26.66 Oxford and 28.40 Hall Green is no slouch from the boxes but would need to lead to figure and fingers crossed for trouble behind.
Boherna Best (m) (B Draper, Unatt) 5.5 (Stan James) 11.0 (Bet365) Barry Drapers August 06 son of Pacific Mile is a very pacey individual and is many peoples fancy for outright honours at a very reasonable price. The lightly race dog has excellent all round pace and if coming away with a slick exit he could make his outright odds look extremely big. Winner at Hall Green in 28.15 and 27.99 Monmore shows this dog has real quality.
Mustang Garcia (m) (G J Hutt, Unatt) 5.5 (Coral) 13.0 (BetFred) Mustang Garcia is a career I have followed closely since coming 2nd in his first race in the U.K at Romford. I personally don't think there is a faster dog in training from the boxes and this dog has raw speed. Since moving from Sam Poots to Graham Hutt this dog is starting show more consistency and when hitting the front not many get near this fellow. Best times include 28.59 Walthamstow, 28.76 Wimbledon and 24.04 Romford.
Mako Magic (m) (P W Young, Romfd) 13.0 (Coral) 26.0 (Bet Direct) Trained by Paul Young at Romford Mako Magic is a multiple winner on the open race scene and is currently being backed for outright honours each-way. Is inconsistent from the traps but when breaking in front has produced 27.43 over course and distance and a fly 28.07 at Hull. Don't dismiss lightly.
Deanridge Fury (w) (D Childs, Unatt) 2.0 (Paddy Power) 4.3 (Stan James) Essex based trainer Dean Childs trains 2nd favourite for outright honours Deanridge Fury. Winner of the recent Puppy Cup from Belle Vue and unbeaten over course and distance the October 06 whelp has improved leaps and bounds and clocked 27.24 in the first round. But does he have the pace to clear the inside runners?
Cortsway Giants (w) (R Nelson, Unatt) 17.0 (VCBet) 41.0 (William Hill) Outside of the field Cortsway Giants is a very strong running greyhound and may find the 470m distance on the sharp side. Would need luck up front to play any part in the race but does have fast win times at Wimbledon and Coventry.
Raiders Verdict:
Even though favoured by the layers I find it hard to see the favourite Deanridge Fury getting any sort of a run early and may find the wrong greyhounds in Boherna Best and Mustang Garcia in front off the 2nd bend. If this is the case then the Fury's competition hopes may be dashed. I was going to put up this up as a lay bet for outright honours but due to lack of liquidity in the Betfair market I would advise a lay bet for tonight's semi final around 2.5.
