The Qatar Masters
By Profit SwingThis is a seriously long course and we must not get too concerned with what happened last week. From what I gather neither Kaymer nor Poulter first and second last week are big fans of this course and their poor record here would back that up. Of course they are two of the top players in the world so rule them out at your peril but at their prices we can leave them this week.
So what are we looking for well a long driver first and foremost and a good player in windy conditions which are forecast particularly the prevailing wind in the afternoons.
Our star selection was a player we followed last week who many of you will be shocked we are sticking with it is Henrik Stenson whose parentage I did more than question last week. The Swede however describes this course as his favourite on tour and seems to relish its toughness. At the weekend he scored well and appeared to have cured the putting yips which cost him certainly a place. We will be sickened if we drop him now.
Pick: Henrik Stenson 1pt win 13.0 Bet365
Our second selection is another player who looked rusty but finished strongly last week he is a long driver and is extremely keen to do well here this week as he feels he needs a good Middle Eastern swing to get his Ryder cup campaign off to a flyer. It is Paul Casey or team Casey as he so ludicrously calls himself. Let’s forgive him that though he ripped it here in practice by all accounts, this course should really suit and he is overpriced this week.
Pick: Paul Casey 1pt ew - 1/5 1,2,3,4 - 29.0 Coral
Ross Mcgowan finished in the top thirty last week but probably was a little better than that sounds as he had the worst of the draw then played catch up went at every flag and made mistakes. He claims the cobwebs are well and truly blown off now and thinks the course will suit him. The way he is striking the ball we cannot desert him in the desert (sorry about that).
Pick: Ross Mcgowan 0.5pt ew 1/5 1,2,3,4 - 67.0 Boylesports
And last but certainly not least another player with Ryder Cup aspirations who is just hitting top form Yorkshires very own Simon Dyson he is a player who at times appears to lack focus shall we say but apparently is really committing him self to the game after Monty has told him he is in his plans. Dyson is good anyway but when he practices as well is a match for everyone, plays well in the wind and loves the desert and far east conditions.
Pick: Simon Dyson 0.5pt ew 1/5 1,2,3,4 - 71.0 Bet365
Some of you may ask why have we left out Louis Ooosthuiszen our big ew winner last week quite simply this course won’t suit him as much as last week and the market is probably about right for him. The trick in golf betting is to know when to stop backing winners as well as losers and I think we are on four overpriced selections this week.
Good luck and remember check back on Saturday night to see if a last round salvage job is called for!
