This Week's Golf
By Profit SwingWell we nearly scooped a biggy with Luke Donald and my claim that Stricker was a Sunday bottler nearly came true but fair play to Stricker he putted better than I have seen since Goosen won his second US Open so no shame for our Luke who as we thought loved the course.
This week sees the Pebble Beach pro am played over three courses for the first three rounds and of course everyone plays with an amateur so rounds can last many hours. Pebble Beach is this year’s open course so might be set up a bit naughtier than normal so expect Alice Cooper to need a few spare balls!
I’m not a great fan of multiple course tournaments or pro ams but strangely this week I feel we have a decent chance.
Now Luke Donald is understandably much shorter than last week but in the past has missed the cut in this tournament and I also feel he may have a bit of a reaction from last week so we are going to leave him out. We will be betting him in the States again very soon though I assure you. Our number one pick is a man who let us down last week but who I feel may well make amends, Tim Clark. Clark actually shot a nine on one par four last week losing a ball then hitting the replacement into the same scrub. Not good, but that apart was swinging it superbly and showed a lot of class shooting two good scores on the weekend. This is telling me his form is strong and his head is in the right place. I expect him to go very well this week and we need to be on him again.
Pick: Tim Clark 1.5 points EW 34.0 win & 7.5 place
This is a tournament that throws up shocks and our next three are all at big prices. The first is Ryuji Imada, the Japanese player who played so well in the Bob Hope Classic three weeks ago. He loves the greens in California and loves to play in the windy conditions which will surely prevail this week.
Pick: Ryuji Imada 0.5 points EW 1/4 1,2,3,4,5 91.0 Boylesports
One British golfer plying his trade in America who no one ever mentions is Brian Davis. Brian is playing very good golf at the moment with a top twenty twice already this year and top ten at last year’s players championship. Davis feels his swing is as good as it has ever been and feels a contending week is just around the corner. His good steady if short driving will aid him this week particularly if Pebble Beach is more tricked up than usual, he is simply too big a price to ignore.
Pick: Brian Davis 0.5 points EW 1/4 1,2,3,4,5 201.0 Bet365
Our final selection finished top twenty last week and had a storming last round. He is a player who like so many made lots of swing changes and then promptly lost his confidence but looks to have finally regained it. He is loved by the crowds in California and is one of the few players who genuinely enjoys pro ams, Jason Bohn.
Pick: Jason Bohn 0.5 points EW 1/4 1,2,3,4,5 111.0 Bet365
