This Week's Golf

By Profit Swing

The US Tour stays in the desert this week as we move on to Scottsdale for the romantically titled Waste Management Phoenix Open.

I'm sure that like me many of you will have played this course hundreds of times and shot in the low sixties! Before you think I have celebrated Poulter's win a little too strongly I ought to point out it has featured on the  Tiger Woods PGA Golf  EA Sports game for over ten years. The course is long and instead of rough there is sand on many holes and water, lots of it.

We need a long straight hitter and good putter to triumph this week and our main selection is all those things. It is Geoff Ogilvy who looked in great nick last week before losing to Villegas in a great match. This guy loves golf in these conditions and is strong when in contention; I think he has a great chance this week.

Pick: Ogilvy 1 pt ew 1/4 1,2,3,4,5 20.0 Paddy Power

We are sticking with another of last week’s selections in the shape of Robert Allenby who has played well here in the past and is currently the hottest player on tour. He is driving straight and long at the moment so should not be visiting the sand or water too often and is putting better than he has for over a decade. That makes a potent combination for this course

Pick: Allenby 1 pt ew 1/4 1,2,3,4,5 34.0 William Hill

Our final player is not the longest hitter in the game but is certainly a brilliant putter who played really well last week before being beaten up by Paul Casey. It is Brian Gay whose win on tour last year has given him the self belief that has always been missing from his game. I think he is way overpriced this week

Pick: Gay 0.5 pt ew 1/4 1,2,3,4,5 36.0 Paddy Power

This tournament has the biggest attendance of any in the world and on the last day can get very boisterous which can be extremely entertaining. If Mickelson is anywhere near the lead it will be quite a spectacle but Phil has his wife's illness to contend with and understandably does not look at the top of his game at the moment, so for me is a poor value favourite this week. This should be a great spectacle on Sunday let’s hope we have a player in the thick of it, enjoy!
