This Week's Golf

By Profit Swing

We will stick to the US Tour this week as I fear the Malaysian Open on the Euro Tour is nigh on impossible. We travel to Florida for the Honda Classic which is played on the National Course at the Palms Resort. This course was redesigned and more importantly toughened up by Jack Nicholas and now is a seriously difficult test of Golf.

The Euro Stars are out in force and the Bookmakers have young Rory as the favourite which is bewildering to me but let them get on it with it as it pushes the prices out for everybody else. I have said it before Rory has won twice on tour and is a highly promising player with a huge future but to have him shorter in the betting than Paul Casey and Lee Westwood is ludicrous and shows that Bookmakers react to hype as well as punters. This course will not suit him anyway as it is positional and suits the more cerebral approach and has often been won by the less flash players. Ben Crane was second last year and he is so boring if he was putting on your front lawn you wouldn't open the curtains! We have two main selections and a long priced flyer this week who is European but more of him later.

Robert Allenby was seventh last week but could and should have been much closer to winning. At one stage he was two off the lead and then narrowly missed two birdie attempts. As I said last week his game has been completed by a new and highly effective putting grip this season. This time last year Allenby's game was in tatters and yet he finished fourth. This year he has had six top eights in seven tournaments. I do not think this hot streak is ready to cool off just yet and feel he will go very close this week.

Secondly Tim Clark is another player we are sticking with. He is playing well but has not been suited by the low scoring tournaments we have had this year and will relish this tight difficult track. He will be looking to grind out a good week and trust me this guy will win for us very soon. This tough course makes it a strong possibility to be this week.

Pick: Tim Clark 1 point EW 1/4 1,2,3,4,5 41.0 Betfred

Lastly a player I have waited a year to back. Greg Owen had a top twenty finish in this last year and he claimed it was his favourite course on the US Tour. Greg resides in Florida and will be desperate to have a good week. He created so many chances last year but had a terrible week with the putter. I know he feels comfortable this year and his back which he has struggled with is holding up well enabling him to practice longer and harder. The Florida Swing is going to be a key part of his season and his steady style is perfect for this course.

Pick: Greg Owen  0.5 point EW 1/4 1,2,3,4,5 251.0 Betfred

Remember to check back in on Sunday afternoon.  I can’t promise you another big priced winner but we will do our utmost!
