Racing at Pontefract

Today Profit Swing makes his way to Pontefract but before that will share the horses I am going there to back. It looks a strong card for the first meeting at Goodwood by the slagheap as we locals call it!

On a serious note, if you get chance to go take it as this course has made major improvements in all its facilities and is a great day out. Course form here repeats itself and you want to be looking for horses that have won at the distance as many a horse comes round the bend cantering only to toil up its brutal uphill finish. Two jocks I follow are Fallon and Paul Hanagan who both ride this track very well and the two Malton trainers in form Fahey and Quinn often target the track so give their runners special consideration.

This looks a fair maiden with Cecil and Gosden having the joint favourites but the one I like is the Jarvis trained Gay Mirage. He was sixth in a fair maiden at Nottingham last autumn and that could be the best form on offer. He should relish this trip too and looks the value call.

On the surface a tough handicap but I was so impressed by Kiwi Bay at Doncaster and I think he has a massive chance today in a much weaker field.

A marathon contest where I am sticking with Bold Adventure for the in form Musson yard. He scored with a lot in hand at Wolverhampton last time and is weighted to win this. Tony Culhane takes the ride and he is another who rides this track well.

The race of the day for me and I like two at big prices Track Record and Classic Vintage. Classic Vintage is trained by Amanda Perrett and won at Glorious Goodwood last year; this fast run race will be ideal for him. Track Record makes his debut for Jonjo O’Neil and I hear has worked well, he could be on a very generous mark.
