Article: Premier League Preview
Man Utd travel to Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime for Sky's marquee match of the weekend. United have only conceded one goal in the last eight PL fixtures between the two sides, and have a 7-1-0 H2H in their favour during this period. With Robbie Keane only managing to score with his model wife since moving to Merseyside, the value is with the Red Devils here.
Fulham could not have had a more mixed start to the season - an opening day defeat to Hull was followed by a shock home win against Arsenal, and Roy Hodgson's team look on course for a decent season. Led by midfield talisman Jimmy Bullard - finally getting a deserved England call-up last week - Fulham are a team full of experience and determination. Despite Bolton making some of the best (and unnoticed) signings of the summer in Riga, Elmander and Smolarek, they have lost to Northampton (Carling Cup), Newcastle (PL) and drawn at WBA (PL), after an encouraging opening home win against Stoke. Fulham are unbeaten at home in the PL against Bolton, and with summer signing Andy Johnson set to make his full debut, I fully expect them to maintain this record.
Gianfranco Zola should enjoy the scenery at Upton Park; so long as he enjoys having his hands tied behind his back and being told which pair of underwear suits him best in the morning. Needless to say, I have doubts about West Ham in the long-term. After Alan Curbishley resigned citing board interference with transfers, it is understandable that they have opted for the possible naivety of Zola, who is unlikely to speak out of turn too often, considering that he has landed a relatively plum job with precious little experience. In the long-term, I think that West Ham will struggle to maintain harmony when they have effectively handcuffed their manager. Nevertheless, I'm more than happy to back them away to WBA during Zola's honeymoon period.
To Monday night, and I am perhaps over-estimating the ability of Spurs' defence when I say that their defence is akin to a chocolate fireguard. They have an embarrassing amount of attacking flair in their side, but with no solidity to speak of, they have already suffered defeats to Middlesbrough and Sunderland this term. 13/18 of Spurs' home games last season finished over 2.5 goals, including a 4-4 draw against Aston Villa on a Monday night. History can repeat itself here.
