Sehwag Targets England
India opening batsman Virdender Sehwag is aiming to recover from a shoulder injury in time to face England later this summer. The 32-year-old suffered a recurrence of an ongoing right-shoulder problem recently, resulting in him pulling out of the Indian Premier League in May to concentrate on the recovery process.
He will undergo surgery during his break from the game in an attempt to resolve the problem that has bothered him since 2009. He has had to play through the pain barrier many times, but this cannot continue if he wants to play at the highest-level for another few years.
As part of his rehabilitation, those who get free bets note how Sehwag will miss the tour to West Indies that begins next month. Instead, he is fully focused on reaching full fitness before travelling to England later in the year.
Speaking about the situation, he said: “I think I will be able to play the series in England. Going by the rehabilitation programme designed for me, I should be okay. I am already feeling the difference each day.”
India will certainly be monitoring Sehwag’s progress closely as he is an extremely important player for them who often gives them an explosive start at the top of the order.
A look at his statistics shows how much Sehwag could be missed during his spell on the sidelines. He averages 53.43 in 87 test matches and has a strike rate of 104.07 in 236 One Day Internationals.
Sachin Tendulkar may get a lot of the attention in this Indian batting line-up, but it won’t be the same without Sehwag at the top of the order. They will want him back in action as quickly as possible and if that is the very significant England tour, then so be it.
For the sake of the series between India and England too, it would be good if Sehwag was fit and in form. You want the best against the best and he certainly fits into that category.
Perhaps the rest after a hectic schedule will actually do him some good and he will be at his devastating best upon his return. This could be ominous for England, but excellent for India and cricket fans the world over.
