Surrey Victorious at Edgbaston

County Cricket Club, Surrey, are through to the semi-finals of the Clydesdale Bank 40 (CB40), following a magnificent win over defending champions, Warwickshire.

The south-easterners stunned their opponents at Edgbaston, yesterday, scoring 282 for 7, to win by 130 runs. The result marked the third occasion in a row that Surrey have collected more than 270 runs in a match. Those following the cricket betting online would have been very impressed.

Surrey's Jason Roy scored his first-ever century in one-day cricket, hitting 101 from 95 deliveries. However, the youngster's fiery demonstration was not the only significant performance from a Surrey player in Birmingham, on Wednesday.

All-rounder, Matthew Spriegel, took three wickets for 39 runs, a "season's best" tally for the 24-year-old, while Bromsgrove-born cricketer, Steven Davies, collected 40 runs from 28 balls, including nine fours.

Warwickshire have now lost six games in eleven, whereas Surrey, who are 4.0 points clear of Durham at the top of the CB40 Group B, have yet to concede a match in this season's competition. Pundits like Michael Vaughan expect them to do well.

Surrey, despite having qualified for the knock-out round, still have a game in hand on four of the seven teams in Group B. The club's remaining fixtures are against Leicestershire on August 21, and Durham on August 29.

Warwickshire’s best innings came courtesy of Steffan Piolet, who smacked six fours and one maximum for a score of 39 from 36 balls. The day was otherwise, rather miserable for the Midlanders, with a trio of wickets from Rikki Clarke standing out as a rare highlight for Warwickshire.

The Edgbaston-based squad stands in third place in Group B, with 10.0 points. Warwickshire will now face Northamptonshire at home in their final CB40 match, at the end of the month.
