Which Big Servers Will Dominate At Wimbledon?
There are three main factors to take into account when selecting a player in the most aces market at Wimbledon. The likelihood of a decent run in the tournament, ace-serving history at Wimbledon and general proficiency at aces all help this selection, which usually throws up the same names.Of course last year one freak match decided this market in the men's draw in the tournament's first few days. Thanks to his marathon encounter with Nicolas Mahut, John Isner topped the table with 113 aces, despite losing
rapidly in round two. Tomas Berdych was runner-up, but managed 111 aces from his seven matches. Those looking at the Wimbledon betting shouldn't expect a repeat of this scenario this year.
The fact Rafael Nadal did not feature in the top 20 of ace-servers last year further reduces the importance of reaching the latter stages, although usually the winner of this market reaches at least the semi finals. Ivo Karlovic is always well supported but has reached only one Wimbledon quarter final in seven appearances.
Andy Roddick is generally the man to beat. He has reached three Wimbledon finals and hot 104 aces from his four matches – an early exit by his standards. A last eight place should mean Roddick tops the aces table and those looking at the tennis betting should remember this.
Milos Raonic has served the most aces on tour this year – 438 from 31 matches – at a better average than the less active Roddick. The big Canadian will make his Wimbledon debut and if punters think he can make the second week, he is certainly worth following.
Berdych and Robin Soderling have big serves and decent chances of going deep in the event, whilst Roger Federer should never be discounted – he hits between 13 and 20 aces per match at SW19 and will surely improve on his quarter final finish last year.
The equation is simple in the ladies' draw. If Serena Williams plays, she will surely win this market – she served 89 aces last year, Venus coming second with 30. If these two are absent, then the market is wide-open, with Kaia Kanepi, Vera Zvonareva, Jamila Gajdosova and Julia Gorges players to watch.
