Charlie Adam on the Verge of Completing his Move to Liverpool

Charlie Adam is on the verge of completing his move to Liverpool to end a transfer saga running back to the winter after free bets linked the 25-year-old to Liverpool in January.

The midfielder has passed a medical at the club’s Melwood training complex and is set to join the Reds from relegated Blackpool in a £7 million switch.

In return, Ian Holloway is set to be offered a Liverpool fringe player on loan as the Seasiders start life again back in the Championship.

Adam has yet to agree personal terms but that should happen in the next 24 hours as manager Kenny Dalglish looks to strike a deal.

The Scottish international will become Dalglish’s second summer signing after the arrival of England under-21 international midfielder Jordan Henderson in a multi-million deal from Premier League rivals Sunderland.

The Reds boss is likely to continue splashing the cash after an offer of £15 for Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing was turned down earlier in the week. Dalglish is in the market for a winger following the sale of Ryan Babel to Hoffenheim last season and reported target Ashley Young’s move to rivals Manchester United Villa Park.

Adam is set to become the fourth player to enter the door at Anfield after Dalglish spent massive amounts of money on bringing strikers Andy Carroll from Newcastle and Ajax’s Luis Suarez. to the club in January.

Reports suggested earlier this month have suggested Dalglish could also bid for Birmingham defender Scott Dann (something those who like to place a free bet or two have backed up) after Blues manager Chris Hughton stated he was looking to offload his star players and Scott Parker from West Ham.

Liverpool will also be looking to offload fringe players to create more room in their squad with Milan Jovanovic likely to depart after a poor first season at the club while David N’Gog’s transfer to the Stadium of Light is still unsure.

Alberto Aquilani, who was signed by Rafa Benitez from Roma for £20 million, could move back to Italy after failing to impress while a Roy Hodgson signing, midfielder Christian Poulsen, may also be shown the exit door following the arrival of Adam.

Defender Emiliano Insua, who was sent out on loan to Galatasary by Hodgson last season, is determined to fight for his place. The left-back slot had been filled by right-back Glen Johnson towards the end of last season after Insua and Paul Koncheky both left Anfield on loan.
