Masters form guide - Matt Kuchar
Matt Kuchar's career has been punctuated by false dawns. A bright future seemed assured when he was named America's top collegiate golfer in 1998, a year he was the low amateur at both the Masters and US Open. However, the big Floridian did not progress as expected and struggled on his early tour outings after turning professional in 2000. Victory at the 2002 Honda Classic was also not built on, Kuchar dropping onto the Nationwide tour, his promise seemingly unfulfilled.
Kuchar fought back onto the main tour and won his second title at the Turning Stone Resort Championship in 2009, since when his progress has been rapid. He stormed up the rankings and into the US Ryder Cup team in 2010, a year he finished as leader on the PGA money list and owner of the lowest scoring average and the golf betting now suggests he has the Masters firmly in his sights.
2011 has seen Kuchar retain his consistency from last year, recording top-10 finishes at the SBS Championship, Sony Open and Bob Hope Classic. He finished joint 35th at the Northern Trust Open, where he carded his only over par round of the season.
Kuchar claimed an impressive third place at the WGC-Accenture Matchplay, his heavy semi final defeat by Luke Donald more than offset by five excellent wins against top players that showed his calmness under pressure.
Kuchar missed only two cuts last season and was a consistent performer at the majors, securing two top-30 finishes and two in the top 10. He led at the halfway point of the PGA Championship and is now better equipped to deal with the pressure of being a frontrunner in a major. Finally confirmed as one of the world's top players, 2011 could be the year that Kuchar delivers properly on his talent.
