Button Refuses to Concede Title

Following his excellent victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Jenson Button has refused to rule out a title challenge in the second half of the 2011 Formula 1 season.

The McLaren driver has now won two races this year – both in wet conditions – and despite being over 100 points behind Sebastian Vettel, he isn’t giving up hope of winning the World Championship.

Button said: “I'm 100 points behind Sebastian, so that's going to be challenging, but we like a challenge. I never give up, so let's see what happens. I'll take each race as it comes and then look at the points at the end of the year.”

Button certainly seems in very relaxed mood as the season starts its summer break and this should stand him in good stead for the remaining Grand Prix this year.

He also believes that McLaren are in great shape right now and that it will continue to be a close battle between them, Red Bull and Ferrari in the coming months.

The 2009 World Champion said: “We've won three of the last five races and each of our major rivals has won just one apiece during that time, so we're doing something right.”

“To win with Lewis in Germany and me in Hungary proves that Vodafone McLarenMercedes is pushing, developing and challenging the cars around us with genuine pace in the car. Roll on Spa!”

By the time the Belgium Grand Prix comes around at the end of the month, Button will be relaxed, focused and determined to go again.

He has suffered a mixed first half to the campaign – having failed to finish the two races prior to Hungary – and he will be hoping for a more consistent second half of the campaign so he and McLaren can push on.
