The Flat season has
just hit full stride so its rather baffling that all today’s British cards
are national hunt fixtures. Plumpton’s card lacks any quality but in the
main the races look competitive and I’m interested in one in the maiden
hurdle which is the second race on the card.
Qanta De Thaix caught my eye last time out in a similar event at
Newton Abbot when finishing second to Woolcombe Folly, Qanta De Thaix was
caught in a poor position on the bend and in the end was allowed to come
home in his own time but still managing to hold on to second. A winner on
the Flat in France he looks a potential improver for his shrewd
connections and I just hope that they don’t see his future solely in
handicaps as winning this would probably not damage his handicap mark too
much.
Taralina may not be one of the leading lights in the Paul Nicholls
yard but she does have a leading chance in the 2.50 contest at Worcester
this afternoon. She ran her best race yet when third to Coeur D’alene at
Taunton last time, held up under a very patient ride and staying on well
to finish never nearer. She looks to have the ability to take an event of
this nature.
Dancing Tornado shaped much better than the result suggests when ninth
a valuable handicap at Punchestown last time and not for the first time
gave the impression that it was only a matter of time before a competitive
handicap went his way. He’s a strong travelling sort who should be suited
by a fast pace and can hopefully be finishing best of all today at
