Trading Room Event: England v South Africa - 3rd IODI In Play

England v South Africa - 3rd IODI In Play
Published: 29 Aug 08, By Paul Seaborne

Hello everyone, welcome to the trading room for this 3rd ODI between England and South Africa

South Africa need to win to keep the series alive, whilst Kevin Pieterson will be keen to continue is winning start.

Team News: England go in unchanged from the last game

Pieterson (cpt), Prior (wk), Bell, Shah, Flintoff, Collingwood, Patel, Wright, Broad, Harmison, Anderson

South Africa are missing Graeme Smith through injury, whilst both Morkel brothers have recovered from their respective injuries.

Kallis (cpt), Boucher (wk) Gibbs, Amla, De Villers, Duminy,Morkel, Botha, Morkel, Steyn, Ntini

Toss: South Africa have won the toss and elected to field first on a cloudy morning in South East London.

Prices:

Eng 1.87
SA 2.12
-------

England have drifted in the last fifteen minutes since the toss, both sides are approx 2.0 now. I think the market is expecting early wickets.

-----
Ok - so Eng seem to have started well amid early conditions. I see no reason why 2.0 should be ignored. 1st bet, 20 points back of England at 2.0
------
Going well so far - Eng now down to 1.54. We'll lay off 10 points of our original bet as there is a long way to go, but no reason to completely oppose England yet.

10 points lay of Eng at 1.54
-----
Nice start. Our book is
Eng +15
SA - 5
-----
Not much to do now. I was considering an Eng lay if they got to 1.3ish, Prior is now out and England are still 1.54. Nothing to do but wait. Good start by England.

Another quick wicket and we may look to back Eng again, depending on the prices.

The players are just going to have drinks - i might put the kettle on myself.

SA got the wrong man out in my opinion. Prior, whilst batting well, was playing second fiddle to Bell who is firing. Lets see if Shah adopts the same role.

Incidentally, Bell has a poor conversion rate in ODI's - lets see if he can carry it on this time
-----
No he can't. Two fairly quick wickets and England still at 1.5. This is because they have great start and pletny of depth. Not looking to oppose the hosts at 1.5 yet.
----
Big six or seven overs coming up now. Eng could do with pressing on, SA could do with a couple of wickets. Something has got to give.
--------
Really can't do anything here. Eng will post a good total and 1.45 is about right. We have a good book at the moment and the next move might be if SA get off to a good start. We shall see.
----
Ok - not much we can here really. Eng 1.38 on the exchanges to defend 297 which is about right given how well Broad, Harmison and Flintoff have been bowling.

South Africa may well get off to a flyer and there could be a bet there. But for now we'll close off our position leaving us maximum profit on England and a no loss on South Africa.

Bet now is 10 point lay of England at 1.38. And a slap on the back for us and a locked in 11 point profit.
----
There doesn't seem to be too much to do at this point. Eng are probably going to win at a canter here and take the series.  But we're not going to be backing them at 1.13.

It's a shame there weren't more changes of tempo in this game to enable us to gain more profit. Very rare that there is a straight line to 1.01 but at least we were on the right side of it. 11 Points profit for 3 hours work is a decent day, although not huge, they all count
-----
So as expected, England wrap up the game and with it the series. Samit Patel is named man of the match for his five wickets and 31 with the bat.

We end the game with an 11 point profit which is always nice. As I said earlier, it would have been nice to complete a few more trades had the match ebbed and flowed a bit more, but it was pretty much one way traffic from the moment Prior and Bell stepped out in the middle.

I hope you enjoyed the coverage from priceform.com, and we look forward to seeing you back here soon.

Paul
