Trading Room Event: Middlesex v Trinidad and Tobago @ 21:30 BST 27/10/2008
Crafty Stan will be trading the Stanford Super Series match between Middlesex and Trinidad & Tobago starting at 21:30 BST on 27/10/2008. The crafty one will be trading with a starting bank of 100 points.
18:11
Middlesex have announced a 12 man squad for this match and it is as follows: Shaun Udal (Captain), Neil Carter, Neil Dexter, Bily Godleman, Tyron Henderon, Ed Joyce, Murali Karthik, Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan, Tim Murtagh, Ben Scott, Andrew Strauss.
It will be interesting to see who gets the nod, I have an incling that Godleman will be the man to miss out but perhaps the Crusaders will be concerned about their lack of specialist batsmen if they do that.
19:24
To give you an idea of what the present prices are, on Betfair we have:
Middlesex @ 1.5 Back, 1.52 Lay and Trinidad & Tobago 2.9 Back, 2.98 Lay
A lot of chat going on about the effect of the spin partnership of Murali Karthik and Shaun Udal. They combined effectively throughout the English domestic campaign and last night they were excellent against England and really bogged the batsmen down.
20:55
Middlesex win the toss and will bat first. I will get confirmed lineups for you as I recieve them.
20:59
Exactly as I suspected and contrary to the belief of a popular cricket website, Tyron Henderson comes in to replace Stephen Finn with Billy Godleman being the player to miss from the squad of twelve.
The Trinidad & Tobago side has made some changes too. Justin Guillen, Kevon Cooper and Richi Bachan are replaced by Amit Jaggernauth, Richard Kelly and Darren Bravo.
I think the price on Middlesex is a bit of a joke so will look to lay them initially, especially given their struggles with the bat yesterday.
LAY Middlesex @ 1.54 for 30 Points Liability
21:12
Middlesex have opted to bat first tonight which could be viewed as a curious decision but i suppose they may have based it upon the fact that both of the opening matches were won by the side batting first and that maybe if they get a score on the board then they can create enough pressure for their spinners to strangle the T&T batsmen.
If I were forced into picking an outright winner then I would marginally opt for Middlesex because on the face of it, they have the better quality of personnel at their disposal but as the team away from home with a worrying lack of power in the top order (I'm discounting Neil Carter here because last night exposed just how limited his capabilities are at times and remember, he is a natural tail-ender) and perhaps an over-reliance on the spinners, the Middlesex side could be exposed against a motivated side led by a very astute captain in Darren Ganga.
Might be interested in a dabble on the runs market but wil have to see how it opens up.
21:27
I fancy that given that both teams have had a match in the conditions then they should be better prepared and we should see a few more runs so I am going for Middlesex to get a few more than 140 runs. This is a bit contradictory but I see plenty of twists and turns in prospect.
BACK over 140 runs Middlesex Innings @ 1.9 for 20 Points Liability
21:31
Andrew Strauss has a tough time in the opening over against Samuel Badree. End of Over 1 - Middlesex 4-0
21:35
Bit of confusion between Strauss and Carter nearly saw Carter run out but Darren Bravo missed his chance.
Strauss tucks Ravi Rampaul off of his pads down the leg side for four and Middlesex are starting to get going.
WICKET - Carter nicks through to the slip to go for just 1 and end the over.
No need to trade just yet as it is very early in the piece.
End of Over 2 - Middlesex 12-1
21:40
Strauss seems completely befuddled by Badree as he miscues him just over the fielder at Point.
These two will look to rotate the strike you would think after the early loss. End of Over 3 - Middlesex 15-1
21:43
WICKET - Rampaul manages to get Ed Joyce to nick one. Early struggles for Middlesex. It might be time to start thinking about more trading.
Eoin Morgan is a dangerous customer if he gets set so he will need to get himself in.
End of Over 4 - Middlesex 18-2
21:44
I'm going to lay off some of my Liability. 15 Points Lay of Trinidad & Tobago @ 1.92
21:47
These two are trying to nudge the ball around so no alarms at the moment. End of Over 5 - Middlesex 22-2
21:50
The run rate pressure is starting to tell as Morgan goes for a risky second but gets home. Another excellent over bowled by Rampaul who seems intent on getting his share of this $400,000!
End of Over 6 - Middlesex 25-2
21:53
Amit Jaggernauth comes into the attack and nearly gets Strauss lbw. A risky single taken by Morgan increases the heart rate of Middlesex backers!
Another tight over yields just three runs. End of Over 7 - Middlesex 28-2
21:58
WICKET - Strauss simply could not take any more nurdling and decides to advance down the track and gets stumped off the bowling of offie Sherwin Ganga.
Big hitting Tyron Henderon comes in to bat and he will need some lusty blows to get the scoreboard going.
Morgan plays a nice dab sweep to get a couple.
End of Over 8 - Middlesex 32-3
22:02
The nudge and nurdle fest continues but this won't suit big Henderson who has a few wild swings to no avail until his belts a four to end the over - there was some debate over whether it was stopped by the fielder but he was in contact with the rope.
After much messing around the third umpire finally agrees that it should be a four.
End of Over 9 - Middlesex 37-3
22:07
WICKET - Henderson has yet another agricultural effort but this one goes badly wrong as he sees his off stump disappear.
Enter the brilliant Dawid Malan.
Sherwin Ganga has another fine, fine over.
End of Over 10 - Middlesex 40-4
22:09
A brilliant reverse sweep from Morgan for fours enlivens the crowd a little. Stanford must be a little concerned that his plan for world domination is being hampered by another snooze fest.
A fightin over from Middlesex.
End of Over 11 - Middlesex 47-4
22:10
Removing my red on Middlesex now. 15 Points Lay of Trinidad & Tobago @ 1.42
22:12
A fine opening over for the spell of Navin Stewart as he yields just 3 runs. End of Over 12 - Middlesex 50-4
22:16
Big moment in the match as Malan skies it to Perkins but is duly put down. Typical!
End of Over 13 - Middlesex 55-4
22:20
WICKET - Could it be curtains for Middlesex? Malan somehow gets himself out by playing down leg side and picking out Jaggernauth!
Dexter comes in to face the music, they'd love 120+ now. Trinidad smelling blood....
End of Over 14 - Middlesex 59-5
22:26
The fight is taken back to Trinidad as Dexter launches one for six!
12 off the over!
End of Over 15 - Middlesex 71-5
22:31
Pretty turgid stuff as Sherwin Ganga ties them up a bit. This is pretty tough to watch for the Caribbean crowds promised fireworks!
End of Over 16 - Middlesex 76-5
22:36
Stewart really knows how to bowl in these conditions. The Superstars should be looking at this lad!
WICKET - Almost carbon copy of the dismissal of Malan as Morgan tries a similar leg side shot and the young Irishman must trundle off disappointed.
Not much trading to be done the way this is going.
End of Over 17 - Middlesex 80-6
22:40
Dexter seems to have had enough now. He belts a six over cow corner and Middlesex have a reasonable over!
End of Over 18 - Middlesex 90-6
22:44
Another very productive over for Middlesex as they hit sixteen off the over. Dexter hits a huge six to kick things off and Ben Scott ends with a boundary too.
End of Over 19 - Middlesex 106-6
22:52
Last over slog time!
Dexter whacks Rampaul over deep mid-wicket for four. A brace of runs keeps him on strike for crucial late deliveries!
Dexter then turns his attention to sweeping as he paddles one for four! Carnage!
WICKET - A big relief for Rampaul as he removes the off stump of Dexter with a fine yorker!
In comes Shaun Udal.
WICKET - Got him! Rampaul induces a nick to get Udal off the penultimate ball of the innings, more importantly it is a dot ball and lost momentum.
Tim Murtagh will look to slog it a long way!
Just a single off the final ball but at least Middlesex have an outside chance - not much of one though. Final Total - Middlesex 117-8
22:58
Well that was a good fightback from Neil Dexter in the end to at least get Middlesex to some sort of a total. It is extremely difficult for your bowlers to defend that sort of a total even on a pretty slow track such as this one. I see this as more of a 140-150 pitch and Neil Dexter showed this during the latter stages. It is very much a game of two halves though so who knows?
To summarise and break down my trading position it is as follows:
Match Position
Lost 20 Points on Runs Market
Middlesex - 0.00
Trinidad and Tobago - + 35.45
My initial lay of Middlesex at 1.54 left me in a position of being -30 on them and +55.55 on T & T. My 15 Points lay of T & T @ 1.92 left me in a position of being -15 Middlesex and +41.75 on T & T and finally I zeroed out on Middlesex with a 15 Points lay of T & T at 1.42.
I may decide to shift some during the innings but given the very low score, there may not be need for it. We shall see!
23:12
WICKET - Immediate set-back as an uneasy Perkins whacks one back to new ball bowler Murtagh without troubling the scorers. Just what the market needed for more trading.
I've decided that 117 should definitely not be enough so I'm backing the evens available.
Back Trinidad& Tobago 20 Points @ 2
End of Over 1 - T & T 1-1
23:18
WICKET - Carter gets Simmons leg before first ball of the over and my last move looks very silly!
Some calm heads will be required to see the Trinidad boys home now. Bear in mind that it is only a run a ball.
End of Over 2 - T & T 4-2
Match position
Lost 20 points on Runs market
Middlesex - 20
T & T +55.45
23:22
Tight stuff from Murtagh
End of Over 3 - T & T 8-2
Can't help thinking this 1.35 Price of Middlesex is crazy.
Lay of Middlesex 10 Points Liability @ 1.34
23:27
Decent over for T & T. These two Ganga's have a good understanding.
End of Over 4 - T & T 14-2
23:30
Things seemed to have settled down a bit in the middle and this partnership is carefully building. Murtagh bowling tightly until the last ball which is clobbered for four by Darren Ganga.
End of Over 5 - T & T 22-2
23:33
Tyron Henderson comes in to bowl. This could be crucial to their chances of victory because Henderson is a specialist and is capable of strangling in the lead up to the spinners.
The brothers seem confident enough though so no alarms.
I've laid T & T at 30 points at evens now but it wouldn't be matched yet - will confirm if and when it is.
Tight stuff early up from Hendo.
End of Over 6 - T & T 24-2
23:37
Udal in now and he starts well and only goes for four runs.
End of Over 7 - T & T 28-2
23:41
Murali Karthik in now and Udal is really rotating his bowlers. You'd expect that these two will go together as a spin pairing for at least the next few overs or so.
The batsmen seem pretty comfortable nudging and nurdling Karthik around. RRR went above 7 until the last ball which was looped up and slogged for four by Darren Ganga.
End of Over 8 - T & T 36-2
23:44
This is not really what Udal would have hoped for from himself and his spin partner as the runs are coming a little easier. No big shots in the over but an easy 5 off the over.
End of Over 9 - T & T 41-2
23:48
Another over of milking the spinner. 5 runs off Karthik easy enough. They need 72 off the last 10 with 8 wickets in the hutch. Very close end in prospect!
End of Over 10 - T & T 46-2
23:53
WICKET - Malan comes on to bowl and Sherwin Ganga's eyes light up but he slogs it up to Murtagh on the midweeket boundary. First delivery of his spell. Crucial wicket.
Darren Ganga is very much the key here because he looks pretty composed out there.
WICKET - Unbelievable stuff. Ganga steps down the track to Malan and is stumped by Scott. Could the game have been taken away with that crucial blow to T & T.
The required rate is not high but the wickets are killers.
End of Over 11 - T & T 50-4
23:57
Henderson back in.
These two need to stay there and play for a situation for example where they need say 30 runs off of the last 3 overs with plenty of wickets in hand.
A mix up nearly brings about a wicket but Strauss misses with his throw.
End of Over 12 - T & T 54-4
00:01
Malan continues and is doing a tidy job here on the whole but these two look like they have intentions on switching gears.
Both parties would accept that over. 7 off.
End of Over 13 - T & T 61-4
00:04
Murali Karthik back in here. Darren Bravo seems to have intent.
Dropped catch from Joyce - at least he made sure that he cut off the boundary.
Amazing scenes here as the same thing happens.. Bravo wallops one down Joyce's throat and is dropped again!
End of Over 14 - T & T 66-4
00:07
52 off last 36 balls needed. It is time for some carnage the caribbean fans will hope!
These two are batting nicely now and have given their team a chance. 7 off the over.
End of Over 15 - T & T 73-4
00:12
45 off 30 balls needed.
A big heave down the ground from Bravo gives them four runs and hope remains!
Karthik is not happy here and the captain Udal is struggling with a hamstring injury. Is the worm turning? There is certainly a panic in the betting market!
Dropped catch!!!! Carter drops a dolly as Bravo gets a thick outside edge to backward point.
9 off the over!
End of Over 16 - T & T 82-4
00:16
36 off 24 needed.
SIX! Ramdin whacks one down to Morgan on the boundary down the ground but he drops it over the boundary for a maximum!
This game has turned on it's head again.
NO BALL SIX!!! That should be the game now!!! The crowd are loving this and no doubt so will Kevin Pietersen considering he is such a fan of Neil Carter!
My 30 Points Lay of Trinidad was matched in all this confusion but I wish it wasn't now! At least I am zero on Middlesex again!
Amazing over goes for 18.
End of Over 17 - T & T 100-4
00:21
Henderson looking for some miracle bowling now..
Mr Stanford looks a little excited now. Maybe one of those nice ladies he was with yesterday has perked up his day or perhaps he is genuinely loving the drama.
This is too easy now for the Trinidad side and the fielding is going to pot.
9 off the over.
End of Over 18 - T & T 109-4
00:27
9 off 12 required - should be a cakewalk now.
Ramdin has been brilliant here and kept his head cool under pressure.
A single to begin the over is followed by a couple.
Ramdin wallops one two bounces over mid wicket for four and just two are required from nine.
WICKET - Ramdin's fantastic knock is over as he is stumped in bizarre circumstances. He has almost certainly seem his team home as only two runs are required from seven balls.
Big hitting Richard Kelly comes in. Dot ball to end over.
End of Over 19 - T & T 116-5
00:31
Dot ball adds a little tension as Henderson looks to prove his is a great death bowler but this notion is dismissed by Darren Bravo who wallops a massive six down the ground to end the game!!
Final result - TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO WIN BY FIVE WICKETS
00:34

Not the greatest trading performance but a nice healthy profit gained from it. Hope you all enjoyed the game!
