Trading Room Event: Rugby Union: Six Nations - England v Wales
Message boardPublished: 06 Feb 10, By Crafty Stan
Crafty Stan will be trading the Six Nations game between England at Wales starting at 17:00 GMT on 06/02/2009. Crafty will be starting with a trading balance of 500 points.10:45 am
Morning all. I have given myself an initial position for todays game. I have laid England @ 1.61 for 100 points so the present situation is as follows:
-61 ENGLAND
+100 (Before commission) WALES
+100 DRAW
Expecting a real tight one here and wouldn't even rule out the draw as a runner. I personally make Wales only a shade odds against so getting a lay in on England here is a must for me. Gethin Jenkins is a big loss and Paul James is hardly a great fill-in but the Welsh still have plenty of class in the ranks.
16:25pm
Well that was boring wasn't it? I am referring to the dreadful affair at Croke Park where Ireland were bad but Italy were worse in a 29-11 win for the Irish. Looking forward to some proper rugby now.
16:28pm
Seems like my plan of an early lay of England has backfired slightly as England have came in a bit on the exchange. Oh well!
16:58pm
The pleasantries are under way and we will shortly be getting a kick off. I'm expecting these two under pressure sides to be pretty nervy early on.
16:59pm
I'm back in. England are joke short at 1.51. LAY of 50 points. 25.5 Points Liability.
17:07pm
To summarise - my position is -86.50 England, +150 Wales and +150 Draw. 3 mins in still 0-0.
17:12pm
First chance of the game falls to James Hook of Wales in the form of a penalty, he knocks it just wide and the scores remain 0-0 after 7 mins.
17:16pm
Error strewn display from both sides at the moment. Wales had posession deep in England territory and were turned over and then subsequently gave away a pressure relieving penalty. Another penalty ensues and it's an easy 3 points for Jonny Wilkinson. ENG 3-0 WAL after 11 mins.
17:24pm
I'm starting to wonder if this is going to be a bad day at the office for Wales. England totally dominant now and come close to driving over for the first try of the game but are held up by some strong Wales defence.
17:30pm
James Hook fails with another long range kick. Wales have calmed things down a bit. ENG 3-0 WAL after 23 mins.
17:33pm
Hurrah! Wales have actually won a line out. They need to cut out the basic errors if they want to compete here.
17:35pm
Toby Flood fails to release the ball and this gives Stephen Jones a chance to level the scores and he duly obliges. ENG 3-3 WAL after 27 mins.
17:42pm
This could turn into a real dour kicking affair at this rate. Significant moment as Alan Wyn Jones is sin-binned for a cynical trip. Wilko puts the penalty over. ENG 6-3 WAL after 35 mins.
17:51pm
Yep well done AWJ, you have cost your team big time. After sustained pressure James Haskell goes over for the games first try on the stroke of half time. ENG 13-3 WAL at HT.
Nightmare from a trading point of view because the market loves England right now. Struggling to find positives from that first half.
17:55pm
Well the market WAS in love with England... now the backers must be losing confidence. 1.22 with a 10 point lead. Very bizarre and almost tempting to level red.
18:08pm
Danny Care goes over for another England try while the Welsh are down to 14 men still early in the second half. This is all over bar the shouting. Sorry folks. ENG 20 WAL 3
18:12pm
Well you just never know!!! Wales go over through the prop Adam Jones. Strange loss of momentum for England. ENG 20 WAL 10
18:15pm
The Welsh momentum nearly receives another boost as they miss a penalty chance through Stephen Jones. That is 3 missed kicks now for the Welsh. ENG 20 WAL 10 after 52 mins.
18:19pm
Wales butcher a great try scoring chance. England are getting nervous here. 56 mins gone.
18:30pm
Got to feel Wales just left themselves with far too much to do. 65 gone still ENG 20 WAL 10
18:37pm
Oooh. Now Jonno will get worried. Excellent solo effort from James Hook puts Wales back in touch. Stephen Jones adds the extras and the draw is a big runner now! ENG 20 WAL 17 after 72 mins.
18:40pm
Well that momentary excitment is gone now. England seal the deal with another try. ENG 27 WAL 17 after 75 mins.
18:47pm
England added another penalty there at the end to give the scoreline some gloss. Not an ideal game from a trading point of view as Wales never hit the front. Oh well.
Performance - Loss of 86.5 Points.
Hopefully have a better trading chance next time around.
