IPL Match 9: Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians
Published: 17 Mar 10, By Nishant Joshi
Well, that's it, as Mumbai Indians win by an emphatic 98 runs. I hope you enjoyed today's commentary and I look forward to you joining me next time.

1816:
Quite happily to call Game, Set, Match to Mumbai on this one. With the RRR well over 12 and tail-enders at the crease, I doubt we'll be seeing anything other but a mammoth win for Mumbai. Sadly we haven't really been able to make a quick buck this afternoon, as our innings runs bet remained unmatched.

1810:
Another one bites the dust as Maharoof departs via another smart stumping from Tare. The young wicket-keeper has impressed both with the bat and behind the stumps.

1804:
Two wickets in quick succession. Firstly, Karthik is brilliantly stumped by Tare off Harbhajan. Next, Jayasuriya takes a wicket with his first ball as new batsman Mithun Manhas holes out to long-off. Getting tired of saying that last phrase now! Mumbai hit 1.01 and this game is just about over as a contest, Delhi in dire straits at 84/5 after 10.

1755:
Delhi in a world of trouble now, AB de Villiers out playing his favourite cut shot once again, and the Daredevils are 76/3 after 8.1, Dinesh Karthik now at the crease with Maharoof.

1751:
And Sehwag promptly holes out to long-off off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo, and Delhi are 57/2 after 6.3 with AB de Villiers joined by Farveez Maharoof. Delhi are desperate for one of these to get a huge score, and in quick time. Current price of 1.1 Mumbai Indians should not be touched with a bargepole though, if we've learned anything from the IPL, it's to not lump on short odds!

1748:
Betting wise, the prices are pretty fair right now, though slight value probably lies in Mumbai, the market is giving Sehwag huge respect.

1745:
Kieron Pollard onto bowl some medium pace, 49/1 off 5.

1744:
Maharoof returned figures of 4-0-51-2 today, really beggars belief as to why he's in the side ahead of the formidable South African prodigy Wayne Parnell. He offers far better pace and accuracy.

1738:
Huge wicket as Dilshan is clean bowled by his compatriot Malinga, and Delhi are 38/1 after 3.4. AB de Villiers walks out as it's announced that Gambhir won't be allowed to bat until Delhi are five down, due to the time he was off the field with his hamstring niggle.

1737:
Right now just looking to see how Malinga goes in his second over, then we'll consider a bet.

1736:
More boundaries off Zaheer and Delhi are off to a rollicking start, 33/0 off 3.

1725:
12+1/0 after the first over and the odds are already up to 1.4, a boundary apiece for Sehwag and Dilshan.

1724:
Both teams resume with Tillekaratne Dilshan partnering Virender Sehwag. It's still unclear as to whether Gambhir will be fit enough to bat, my guess is that they'll just be hoping for Dilshan, Sehwag and AB to do the job!

1717:
Mumbai look a fairly decent price at 1.28 here as a straight bet, it would require the highest successful IPL chase in order to win this. However, a few early boundaries will surely lead to a panicky market. Hopefully this should lead to some good opportunities for us

1710:
Interesting last over, 2 wickets for Ladda as Bravo holes out to midwicket, and Pollard is stumped off the last ball of the innings, finishing on 218/7.

Delhi Daredevils require 219 off their 20 overs.

1706:
Pommie Mbangwa mentions that Kieron Pollard is playing with 'gay abandon'. Wonder if that's a strange nickname for his new partner, Rajagopal Sathish. Nice ring to it.

1704:
It's the rookie leggie Ladda to bowl the last over. God help him.

1700:
Pollard then showed incredible composure to hit his second ball for four, looks like nothing fazes this man. Soon after, Tiwary tries to steal a quick single, Dinesh Karthik latches onto it in a flash and runs out Tiwary for 61 off 37 with a direct hit. An excellent knock and Mumbai are 206/5 after 19, with the West Indies duo of Bravo and Pollard at the crease.

1658: WELCOME TO THE IPL, KIERON POLLARD.
Dirk Nannes bustles in and bowls a beamer at 150kph. Heart in mouth time for everybody there, nearly knocked Pollard's head off. Not sure how Nannes could smile after that, it literally nearly killed Pollard.

1655:
Rayudu holes out to long-on, another terrible shin-high full toss does the job for Maharoof. A brilliant partnership ended there, 71 runs in just under 7 overs.

1653:
Tiwary brings up his second consecutive fifty with another slog-sweep and Mumbai are 187/3 after 17.

1651:
Mumbai showing they certainly have the best Indian batsmen in the tournament here, both Tiwary and Rayudu will be in the frame for India at this rate. I was a huge fan of Rayudu about four years ago, and then he decided to join the ICL out of frustration at not being recognised, but the fact remains that he is one of the most talented batsmen in the country.

1648:
Danny Morrison attempts a duck-hunting gag. It's lost on us. He also seems vaguely drunk. FAIL.

1643:
Mumbai are 165/3 after 15 overs at the second time-out, as Dirk Nannes returns for his second spell.

1640:
Mumbai price holding up surprisingly well at about 1.28 despite a total onslaught here from Tiwary and Rayudu.

1638:
A brutal slog by Tiwary off Sangwan brings up another six for Mumbai, and Delhi will have a tall order chasing anything over 200 here. 220+ looks highly likely with their best hitters to come!

1635:
Barely a tuppence matched before Rayudu smashes a six, and it's 136/3 after 12+1 overs.

1630:
With Pollard/Bravo/Sathish to come, we'll have our first bet of the day. £100 on Mumbai to score 200+ at 1.7 in the innings runs market.

1624:
Tendulkar out for a wonderful 63, caught at long-off off Mishra. Tiwary and Rayudu at the rease, and Mumbai are 122/3 off 11. Pollard and Bravo still to come, hope the crowd have their hard hats on!

1619:
Terrible return over from Maharoof with 14 coming off it. 112/2 after 10, and 210 should be a minimum from here.

1617:
Rubbish from Maharoof as he returns with five wides down the leg side!

1615:
The two leg-spinners Ladda and Mishra are bowling in tandem now, and are tying things down ever so slightly. Looks like the team will bat around Tendulkar...and as I write that, Tiwary slogs a massive sweep off Mishra, way back into the midwicket stands for a huge six. 98/2 off 9.

1610:
Tendulkar reaches his fifty off just 22 balls, and Mumbai are 88/2 off 8, and available at 1.5 to back. We'll keep our powder dry and wait for a better opportunity.

1609:
I don't think I've ever seen a cricketer with more odd hair than Tiwary. The kid has a mop on his head.

1608:
Saurabh Tiwary joins Tendulkar at the crease after impressing in his first match, and gets off the mark with a caress through midwicket.

1605:
Tendulkar is in great nick, and he gestures to a boy on the boundary who is getting in his line of sight. How dare he!

1603:
Where has this kid come from?! Tare looks awesome after smashing a lovely six over long-on...and is promptly bowled by Sangwan as he attempts a repeat. 74/2 and the price is still 1.6 for Mumbai, the market has barely moved with that wicket.

1559:
Rookie leggie Sarabjit Ladda is unlucky to not have Tendulkar out in his first over, as he edges one towards cover where Amit Mishra fails to hang on. 11 runs off that over and Mumbai are 67/1 after 6, and they're trading at 1.56.

1557:
Mumbai are currently around 1.6 to back which reflects an excellent start, and we'll consider backing them at the fall of a wicket. With Bravo/Pollard to come amongst others, Mumbai already look set for a huge score here.

1551:
Aaditya Tare impressed in Mumbai's first game, and he's off to a rollicking start here, smashing a six over midwicket in just his third delivery. Mumbai are 56/1 after 5 overs, with Tendulkar on 35 off just 14.

1550: WICKET -
Sanath Jayasuriya caught at mid-off by sub fielder Nagar, one to YouTube afterwards! Straight after, Tendulkar continues his magic and is progressing serenely.

1545:
More Tendulkar magic takes Mumbai to 29/0 off 3.

1543:
Gambhir left the pitch during the second over after seeming to tweak his hamstring, will be interesting to see if he is fit enough to bat.

1540:
22/0 - some more sublime batting from Tendulkar, but an over which included two missed run-out chances. Mumbai riding their luck with their running between the wickets.

1538:
In case you hadn't noticed, the West Indies duo of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard have joined the Mumbai team straight away, after having landed in India last night.

1535:
Mumbai are 12/0 after the first over, a beautiful Tendulkar cover drive followed by a trademark flick into the leg side off Nannes. Here's Maharoof to Jayasuriya...we've already seen a flip-flop of favouritism, with Mumbai coming into 1.8 from the pre-match 2.2.

1534: Teams are as follows:

Delhi Daredevils: 1 Gautam Gambhir (capt), 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 6 Mithun Manhas, 7 Farveez Maharoof, 8 Amit Mishra, 9 Sarabjit Ladda, 10 Pradeep Sangwan, 11 Dirk Nannes

Mumbai Indians: 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Sachin Tendulkar (capt), 3 Aditya Tare (wk), 4 Keiron Pollard, 5 Saurabh Tiwary, 6 Dwayne Bravo 7 Ambati Rayudu, 8 R Sathish, 9 Harbhajan Singh, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 Lasith Malinga

1530:  Today we will be trading with a live cash bank of £500 with Betdaq.com

1514:  In the pre-match interview, Gautam Gambhir claims that it is a "typical Delhi pitch, full of runs. Ever so slightly contradictory, considering that this is the same Feroz Shah Kotla pitch which has been banned from hosting international cricket for a year after a dangerous pitch was produced for the India vs Sri Lanka match last year.

1505: Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir wins the toss and elects to bat.

1044:
Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians. Over the next few hours I'll be posting a full preview of this afternoon's match, including our trading strategy. I'll be providing regular updates and key stats throughout the duration.

We'll be trading live, so I look forward to your postings on the message board as we all try to keep up with the frenetic pace!

Until then, if you're at work, please make your lunch and tea plans now - maybe ask that blonde in accounting out for a smoothie if you're feeling brave? Definitely before that douche Derek in marketing gets there first.

And of course, please make appropriate plans to tilt your computer to an angle where nobody can see what you're doing, and of course have a plethora of Excel spreadsheets open so that you can switch windows at an instant.

Ciao for now,

NJ
