Thanks to all who followed today, England wrap up a comfortable victory. I sincerely look forward to you joining me next time in the Trading Room!
2149: 2 wickets later and South Africa really looking down the barrel. Some really impotent play underlining how useless they are when Kallis fails. RRR is nearly 11, and England are 1.03.
2137: Absolutely brilliant catch by Ryan Sidebottom at short fine leg to get rid of Gibbs. We're rooting for Michael Yardy big time to land our 12/1 top England bowler shout. He's leading with three wickets...but needs to shrug off three other bowlers on three wickets too!
2127: Kallis gone and the RRR is already approaching 10. The lynchpin of the side is gone and 1.4 still available if you're quick, great value 1.4 shot. For money management purposes, we can't really increase our exposure at lower odds here. Very surprised if South Africa get near this to be honest.
2118: Just 7 runs off the first 2 overs, England are 1.6 and we'll take £25 on that.
2058: I think 168 is a chaseable score on this pitch, but SA's batsmen have failed to impress me in this tournament. Kallis has been scoring runs but hasn't been pacing his innings properly, leaving the lower order a lot of work to do. Boucher, de Villiers and Duminy are all pretty much out of form whereas Gibbs and Smith have failed to convince.
The first half of the innings showed us that taking pace off the ball really has a great effect, and the highest chase so far this tournament has been England chasing down 148 against Pakistan.
Even though this looks like a great batting pitch, 8 overs of spin from Swann and Yardy should hopefully be more than enough to see of South Africa. 1.79 on England now is a must-bet if you haven't had a starting position yet, as we have already got £50 @ 1.55 we'll be happy to let that ride for now...but we will definitely be looking to top up with any drift.
2055: If it's any consolation, regular readers will no doubt be licking their lips at the prospect of landing some E/W top-scorer action at worst, with Mahela Jayawardene (tipped at 23/1 and leading the charts) and Suresh Raina (33/1) both in the mix.
2053: A bitterly disappointing end of the innings for us, as England finish on 168. Just two runs better and we'd have been £120 better off, but as it is, both runs bet lose.
2028: £50 on 180+ @ 1.84, we're all over England here and Morgan/Collingwood both look in fair nick here.
2024: And just as I say that...Kieswetter holes out. Still, plenty of batting to come and barely any change in odds. England should be looking at 170-180+ here.
2023: Not a great fan of betting odds-on early doors in T20 but England are well on top here, back £50 @ 1.55 for a long-term back.
2014: Great innings from Pietersen with a quickfire 53, but he will be disappointed to top-edge a sweep straight to short fine leg. Collingwood in.
2006: Kieswetter skies one to deep midwicket off Botha...where JP Duminy drops an absolute clanger.
2000: Of course, I implore you to post on our message board and post your comments and feedback (good or bad) - link is at the top right of this page.
1956: England 65/1 after 6, a brilliant start with both Kieswetter and KP playing at their aggressive best so far. England are about 1.58 to back.
1953: You can cut the tension with a knife, and the smell of biltong in the air is palpable with 12+1 South Africans on the pitch right now. Of course, KP and Kieswetter were brought up in SA, before deciding to mutiny. A rollicking start by England this, and I'm very happy that we managed odds against on 170+ on what seems to be a very flat pitch, conducive to runs.
1950: Over the last year or so, Pietersen has looked unnaturally tentative at the crease - today he is at his proactive best in his short innings thus far.
1946: A very positive start by England but an equally odd one from South Africa. Opening with Botha worked for them, but a very loose over from Morne Morkel is now followed by five wides from Charl Langeveldt. Body language all wrong from the Saffers.
1940: These two are looking in a positive mood, and KP already looks like he means business. First bet of the day is to back 170 runs or more @ 2.4 or better.
1932: Hmmmm...Johan Botha opens the bowling in a surprising move on a pitch expected to have plenty in it for Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn...and he strikes straight away, as Michael Lumb looks absolutely clueless to a straight, flat delivery and falls LBW for 3. The next ball spins considerably into KP and a half-appeal is turned down.
1927: Eoin Morgan is the closest England have got to a Morkel, and he is in similarly excellent form.
1925: Without a doubt, Albie Morkel is my key man for South Africa. After a couple of barren years, he has hit his straps in the past month and hit a match-winning 40 off 18 against New Zealand.
19:19: South Africa are decent favourites to start off with, and available at 1.71 on Betdaq. Both sides are looking fairly decent so far although SA have one defeat to India in the group stages, and England nearly got up-ended against both Ireland and West Indies in rain-affected matches.
On paper, this is the most dynamic England batting line-up in years, with the top 6 each capable of clearing the boundary. Stuart Broad could be batting at no 10, although I wouldn't have him in the team at all. England's bowling is generally pretty weak, with Bresnan, Broad and Wright all potential fodder. Sidebottom is again picked of Anderson, but he has been very profligate bar one good spell in the warm-up against South Africa.
Having said this, the likes of Broad should enjoy the pace and bounce in this pitch.
Teams:
SOUTH AFRICA 'A': 1 Michael Lumb, 2 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 3 Kevin Pietersen, 4 Paul Collingwood (capt), 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Luke Wright, 7 Mike Yardy, 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 Ryan Sidebottom.
SOUTH AFRICA: 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Jacques Kallis, 3 Herschelle Gibbs, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 JP Duminy, 6 Albie Morkel, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Johan Botha, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Charl Langeveldt.
19:15: England win the toss and bat.
